KANJI CARDS Accelerate Japanese Literacy
SAN JOSE, Calif., PalmSource Mobile Summit and DevCon, May 24, 2005 — MOUNTAINSIDE PRODUCTIONS today announced the new KANJI CARDS 1 AND 2 software for Palm Powered™ mobile devices and smartphones. KANJI CARDS for the Palm OS® platform is a novel approach to speeding up the acquisition of Japanese literacy.
"Having learned Japanese as a foreigner the hard way and having worked as a professional Japanese translator myself, I recognized that what is really needed is a program to accelerate the acquisition of Japanese literacy in a fun way," said Michael Yokoyama, chief executive officer and principal software engineer of MOUNTAINSIDE PRODUCTIONS.
"We believe KANJI CARDS have leveraged the legendary ease–of–use of Palm OS to create a compelling user experience that will help students to achieve Japanese literacy. Students now have a constant mobile companion designed for rapid reading and writing training, accelerating the learning process," said Larry Berkin, director of developer marketing, PalmSource, Inc.
KANJI CARDS feature an easy–to–use color–supported interface with a footprint of only 312K of memory. Based on a "Notebook" paradigm, KANJI CARDS teaches in four ways – on its Learn, Pick, Read, and Write pages.
Instead of merely being a neat stack of Flash cards, at the "Pick" screen, for example, you choose one Kanji and learn 3 wrong Kanji. At the "Read" screen, you choose one answer and learn 3 wrong answers. In your struggle to get the right answer, you memorize three other answers. This is an essential part of MOUNTAINSIDE PRODUCTIONS' speed–learning–in–context methodology.
Learning Japanese also requires some knowledge of Calligraphy (Shodo). The graphic–intensive nature of KANJI CARDS starts you on a path to appreciation of the delicate balance of characters hand–painted with traditional brush. Other products merely show pen strokes and do not allow you to grasp how Kanji are really used in Japan and the rest of Asia.
With global interest in Japan as the second largest economy, the marketplace will have a lot of capacity for this well–designed product. MOUNTAINSIDE PRODUCTIONS will distribute the immediate version as a shareware product.
Availability:
KANJI CARDS PARTS 1 AND 2 are a two–part shareware product available for English speakers worldwide and can be downloaded and registered for US $12.49 per part at www.palmgear.com, www.handango.com and at www.mountainsideproductions.com/kc/kc.htm.
