Owners of Macs and palmOne Treo 600 Smartphones, Tungsten & Zire Handhelds, and Sony CLIÉ Handhelds Can Now Enjoy Audible.com's 40,000 Hours of Downloadable Audiobooks and More
SAN JOSE, Calif. February 10, 2004 — At the PalmSource Developer Conference today, Audible, Inc. (OTC BB: ADBL), announced the addition of new industry-leading handhelds to the universe of AudibleReady® devices compatible with the Audible.com® Internet audio service. Apple Macintosh computer users running OS X and iTunes 4 can now seamlessly download and listen to audiobooks, audio editions of newspapers, magazines and much more onto their audio-enabled handhelds from palmOne™ and Sony® running Palm OS® 5. Audible is the leading provider of digitally delivered spoken word audio.
Audible's audio service transforms audio-enabled palmOne Treo 600 Smartphones, Tungsten, Zire and Sony CLIÉ handhelds into go-anywhere audiobook playback devices, enabling busy professionals, students, and all those who desire to read when their eyes are busy but their minds are free. Users download and store Audible's audio titles to iTunes and then transfer audio to the handheld's internal memory or removable storage media via a software plug-in developed for this purpose by Audible.
"Audible's downloadable audio solutions are a testament to the platform innovation behind Palm OS," said Larry Berkin, director of developer marketing, PalmSource. "We believe bringing iTunes support to Palm OS is a real win for Mac users."
Each Mac user who is running OS X and iTunes 4 and who owns a supported Palm Powered™ handheld will be offered a free trial AudibleListener® membership, which gives users any two audiobooks from Audible's collection of 6,000 titles, or one audiobook and one 1-month subscription to any of the programs in Audible's unique Subscription Center (www.audible.com/subscriptions), the only Internet audio news kiosk for subscribing to audio editions of national newspapers, magazines, original shows and public radio programs.
"Audible is committed to providing an excellent audio listening experience on any and all platform and device combinations," said Guy Story, Chief Scientist, Audible, Inc. "The Audible Internet audio service has been embraced enthusiastically by Mac users in general. We have received continual requests from this community for Mac compatibility between our valuable and entertaining audio and Palm Powered devices. Today's news reflects Audible's commitment to our customers."
